Domain Name Transfer

A domain transfer is to transfer domain name from the management under one ‎registrar to another registrar. As a registrar is only responsible for the management of ‎your domain records, this transfer should in no way affect your website, relevant ‎email or DNS.‎
In order to process the transfer of your domain, you need to have domain already ‎under your ownership and a registrar that you want to transfer that domain to.

The ‎process of a domain name transfer

In order to put your domain name transfer into effect you need to:
• Contacts the new registrar with the wish to transfer the domain name to their service and apply for a transfer ‎to the registrar that you intend to move your domain over to, most registrars will have ‎a form or an option on their website that you can select to 'transfer domain', then supply the new register with the authentication code" your old registrar should've given you this code during the registration if not you'll have to ask the old registrar for that code".
• The new registrar will contact the old registrar with this information.
• The old registrar will contact you to confirm the authenticity of this request.
• The old registrar will release authority to the new registrar.
• The new registrar will notify the end user of transfer completion. The new registrar may have automatically copied over the domain server information, and everything on the website will continue to work as before. Otherwise, the domain server information will need to be updated with the new registrar.

After this process, the new registrar becomes the domain name's designated registrar. The process may take about five days. In some cases, the old registrar may intentionally delay the transfer as long as allowable. After transfer, the domain cannot be transferred again for 60 days, except back to the previous registrar.
It is unwise to attempt to transfer a domain immediately before it expires. In some cases, a transfer can take longer than it should, meaning that the transfer may not complete before the registration expires. This could result in loss of the domain name registration and failure of the transfer. To avoid this, you should either make sure that the transfer process is complete before the expiration date, or renew the registration before attempting the transfer.
If a domain registration expires, irrespective of the reason, it can be difficult, expensive, or impossible for the original owner to get it back. After the expiration date, the domain status often passes through several managment phases, often for a period of months; usually it does not simply become generally available.

PS.

Transferring your Domain Name will add 1 Year to your Domain Name.
Your Domain Name must be at least 60 days old. You cannot transfer a Domain Name if it has been registered in the last 60 days. Please check your Domain Name Creation date by performing a WHOIS on your domain name and make sure it is at least 60 days old. Transferring your Domain Name will add one year to its current expiry date. You will be charged 1 year fees for it.

IMPORTANT

If your domain expired with your old Registrar, and you renewed it with them, then do not Transfer it within 45 days of the previous expiry date since it will not add 1 more year to your domain name, and you will lose out on the Renewal fees paid to the older Registrar.
